Keres Begins Partnership with New Mexico Native and Country Music Recording Artist, Chevel Shepherd to Support Young Adult Tobacco Prevention and Cessation
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – April 26, 2021 – Keres, a Native American-owned small business that provides professional services in tribal community health, engineering, facilities, environment, and tribal programs, announced its partnership today with country music recording artist and Season 15 winner of NBC’s The Voice, Chevel Shepherd. The partnership supports Keres’ young adult program, No More New Mexico (No More NM). Funded by the New Mexico Department of Health Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program, No More NM started in 2019 to reach, engage, and mobilize young adults in New Mexico to live tobacco- and nicotine-free lives.
The partnership with Chevel Shepherd included filming of two public service announcements which took place early this month in Albuquerque. “It was important for us to find an authentic ally for this work,” said Project Manager of the No More NM Program, Lesley Meyer. “Chevel is from New Mexico, a member of the young adult audience we strive to support, and a great advocate for healthy living.”
Chevel Shepherd will also be performing music from her debut EP, Everybody’s Got A Story at an upcoming virtual trivia night this week on Thursday, April 29th at 7 PM MT. The virtual trivia night will imitate “pub-style” trivia with four rounds of questions, prizes, raffles, and live music from Chevel. The event is free to join and open to all New Mexicans. Interested parties can register at www.NoMoreNM.com/register.
“As a small business based in Albuquerque, we are humbled to be aligned with a successful individual as Ms. Shepherd,” said Tim Chavez, President and CEO of Keres. “We look forward to the continued partnership and impact we can have supporting the health of New Mexicans with her on our team.”
Keres also holds additional contracts with the State of New Mexico in tobacco prevention and cessation including supporting secondhand smoke protections in Native American communities with the New Mexico Department of Health Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program and a second statewide education project with the New Mexico Indian Affairs Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program.
