Our history

2001

Keres was established by Timothy J. Chavez, an environmental engineer with extensive experience working with tribal environmental issues throughout New Mexico and at Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) throughout the United States.

2003

Keres secured its 8(a) certification through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The company, which began performing environmental assessments for tribal entities in New Mexico, steadily grew into a multi-disciplinary consulting firm with expertise in the areas of asset management, engineering and environmental services.

2004

Keres was awarded major contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to manage the nationwide Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program, which interfaces at some level with nearly every federally recognized tribe; and the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to perform utility support services for DOE’s western facilities.

Shortly thereafter, Keres began work with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) performing federal real property support services – including targeted asset reviews, real property disposal support, real property utilization and compliance with Federal Real Property Council (FRPC) directives. Through its comprehensive asset management services, Keres picked up contracts with new federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).

 

2007 & 2008

In 2007 and 2008, Keres secured GSA Schedules – the Financial and Business Solutions (FABS) Schedule and Mission Oriented and Business Implementation Services (MOBIS) Schedule, respectively.

2010

Keres leveraged its facility assessment experience and made a natural expansion into facility sustainability and energy efficiency. Growing its staff with LEED-certified and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) assessors, Keres helped FEMA implement a nationwide Energy Management program. The company also conducted energy and sustainability audits at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Indian Health Service (IHS).

2012

Keres became a graduate of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program.

Additionally, Keres was recognized by the American Indian Business Association for its leadership and support of American Indian business students.

2014

Keres started collaborations with a software development firm to create an energy auditing tool for in-field energy auditors. The collaboration yielded the EMAT, a tablet-to-cloud software platform that cuts the costs and improves the quality of an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit.

2016

Keres celebrated its 15-year anniversary—establishing a decade-and-a-half of professional services in federal government.

Today

Keres stands as a sophisticated, Native American-owned Small Disadvantaged Business with a strong reputation and past performance among agencies across the federal government. We continue to focus on three key service areas: asset management and sustainability; engineering and environment; and communication with the mission to employ state-of-art knowledge and proven systems to meet and exceed customer requirements and expectations.
